Her mother is of Maharashtrian and Rajput descent, while her father, Kamal Haasan, is a well-known actor in the film industry.
In addition to being an actor and a lawyer, her uncle Charuhasan is also an actress. Her cousin sisters Anu Hasan and Suhasini are both actors in Indian-Southern films. The well-known actor Mani Ratnam is wed to Suhasini.

She graduated from primary school in Chennai, came to Mumbai for college, and enrolled in St. Andrew’s College, where she earned a degree in psychology.
Because of her father’s mention in an Ashwaha Theatre Play, she performed in some theatre during her school years as a young artist.
She went by the fictitious name “Pooja Ramachandran” in school since she didn’t want to live the life of a star child and didn’t want to divulge her true identity.
