Early Life and Family:

Since he was born in South Waziristan, Ali Wazir received his early education there. Later, he visited Gomal University to get a law degree.

Ali Wazir belongs to the Ahmadi Wazir tribe. The Militant treated his family poorly because of their opinions on the Taliban. One of his older brothers, Farooq Wazir, who also opposed the Taliban, was assassinated by Taliban militants in 2003. His murder marked the beginning of a protracted campaign that led to thousands of further murders.

Later in 2005, while Ali Wazir was imprisoned, Militant attacked and killed his father, brother, uncle, and two cousins. Ali was unable to attend the final rites. Arif Wazir, his cousin, was killed by the Militants in 2020.

Career:

In the 2008 Pakistani general election, Ali Wazir unsuccessfully sought a seat in the National Assembly of Pakistan as an independent from Constituency NA-41 (Tribal Area-VI). He garnered 3,294 votes, but independent Abdul Maalik Wazir won the seat. He attempted to run for the National Assembly seat in the 2013 general election in Pakistan from Constituency NA-41 (Tribal Area-VI), but he was not successful. With 7,641 votes, he narrowly lost the seat to Pakistan Muslim League (N) candidate Ghalib Khan. Ali Wazir lost by 300 votes as a result of the Taliban’s intimidation and torture of his followers and voters.

He was one of the founding figures of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), which was founded in 2018 in response to the extrajudicial assassination of Naqeebullah Mehsud. Following his rejection of Imran Khan’s offer to nominate him on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket to run in the 2018 general election from his NA-50 (Tribal Area-XI) constituency, Imran Khan opted not to field a rival candidate.

In the 2018 general election, he was chosen as an independent representative for Constituency NA-50 (Tribal Area-XI) in the National Assembly. Syed Tariq Gailani, an independent, was defeated by him with 23,530 votes. The costs of his election campaign were covered by the citizens of Wanna, and hundreds of individuals volunteered to canvas for him.

Controversy:

Due to his direct viewpoints, Ali Wazir is frequently seen delving into conflicts. He called for a “assault” on Pakistan in a speech in Charsadda, claiming that Lahore and Rawalpindi were “hotspots for psychological oppressors.” This has generally been condemned by Pakistani media.

Ali Wazir’s participation in NA proceedings has been curtailed as a result of these dubious remarks, according to KPK Information Minister Shaukat Ali Yousafzai. Later in 2020, he asserted that the Pakistan Army is using the COVID-19 epidemic to make money.

Attack on Ali Wazir:

Military Taliban attacked him in June 2018 as he was returning with one of his cousins, Arif Wazir, and other PTM members. Fortunately, Ali lived, but his cousin and other family members perished.

Later, it was claimed that the Nazir Group launched the attack as a result of an old quarrel. He incurred significant commercial losses in 2016. Their gas stations were destroyed, and poison was sprayed into their plants.

Ali Wazir released after 26 months:

Since being in jail for several sedition-related crimes on December 31, 2020, it has imprisoned Ali Wazir in Karachi. Ali Wazir’s release prompted several PTM leaders and activists to gather in front of the main jail to welcome him. He’s anticipated to depart for Islamabad.

Advocate Qadir Khan, Ali Wazir’s attorney, announced to the media that it had freed his client after a judge had granted bail in the last case brought against him.

The advocate continued, saying that it had detained his client for 26 months and had been awaiting trial ever since. Khan reported that Ali Wazir had been granted bail in three further cases against him in Karachi and had been cleared by an anti-terrorism court in one case.

However, he made note of the fact that every time Ali Wazir was freed on bond or declared not guilty in one case, he was arrested in Sindh or Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The attorney added that the politician was the target of three cases in K-P, two of which had already resulted in bail being granted. Tuesday marked the day that he was granted bail in his third case.

Ali Wazir’s release follows persistent demonstrations by the PTM, which has been fighting for Pashtun rights in Pakistan’s tribal regions.

According to the PTM, the state has violated Pashtuns’ human rights through extrajudicial executions and enforced disappearances.

Mohsin Dawar, a National Democratic Movement MNA, distributed a copy of the court’s decision.

Ali Wazir arrested in Peshawar over ‘hate speech’:

Authorities in Peshawar imprisoned Ali Wazir, a lawmaker and the head of the Pakistan Tahaffuz Movement (PTM), on suspicion of using hate speech at a protest on December 6 in Karachi.

Ali Wazir responded to his arrest by claiming he didn’t know why the law enforcement agency had picked him up. “It has also granted me pre-arrest bail.”

Speaking about the incident, MNA Mohsin Dawar claimed that Wazir had been detained as he was leaving the Shuhada-e-APS Memorial Library.

According to the Peshawar Police, Ali Wazir was detained and then taken to East Cantt Police Station.

Ali Wazir had a case filed against him in Karachi, according to Central City Police Office Peshawar’s Ali Amin Gandapur.

Ali Wazir was arrested for Army Public School (APS):

He has suffered severe consequences because of his unwillingness to sign the confessional statement prepared by the Inter-Services Intelligence Agency, or ISI. Active 2: Until February 10, they subjected him to brutal torture and humiliation every single day at the Rangers Headquarters, which eventually took its toll and caused Ali Wazir to pass out from excruciating pain in his kidneys.

Ali Wazir was detained in Peshawar on December 16, 2020, after attending a memorial service for the Army Public School (APS) massacre, which was held in honour of the young students who were targeted in a terrorist attack six years ago that is believed to have been carried out by Ehsan Ulla Ehsan’s terrorist group and resulted in the deaths of 150 students and teachers.

Ali Wazir was subsequently transported via helicopter to the Karachi jail, where he has since been detained. When he was taken into custody, Peshawar City Police Officer Muhammed Ali Gandapur stated that Wazir had been taken into custody at the request of the Sindh police, who had reported Ali Wazir to the Karachi police department’s Sohrab Goth police station.

Charges On Ali Wazir:

In the FIR filed against Ali Wazir, he was charged with violating sections 120-B (Punishment for criminal conspiracy), 121 (Waging or attempting to wage war against Pakistan), 121-A (Conspiracy to commit offences punishable under section 121), 124-A (Sedition), 153 (Wantonly provocation with the intent to cause riot), 153-A (Promoting enmity between different groups).

Achievements:

From the moment of the persecution and Ali Wazir’s detention, the International Socialist League launched a global campaign for his release. We mobilised the Pakistani embassies of several nations, gathered thousands of signatures from union, political, social, and cultural figures, and created a persistent social media campaign to spread the word about this issue globally.

The granted bail is a significant victory, and we must intensify our solidarity effort in order for Wazir and Dawar to be cleared of all the bogus accusations against them.
