Sir Daniel Michael Blake Day-Lewis is a retired English actor. He was an eminent actor of his generation. He is known for the onscreen intensity and exhaustive preparations for his roles. His career spanned over four decades, and he received many honors during his career.

Daniel Day-Lewis is the only actor who received three Academy Awards for best actor performance in the leading role. He received a knighthood for services to drama in 2014. He was born and raised in London. He excelled in his acting skills at National Youth Theater. His major supporting role in a feature film was The Bounty. Early Life:

Sir Daniel Michael Blake Day-Lewis was born on 29 April 1957 in the Kensington district of London. His father, Cecil Day-Lewis, was a poet. He was born to his second wife, Jill Balcon, who was a famous actress. His maternal grandfather Sir Michael Balcon was the head of Ealing Studios. The BAFTA for Outstanding Contributions to British Cinema is given in his honor.

After two years of Day-Lewis’s birth, his family moved to  Crooms Hills in Greenwich. At school, he was bullied for being Jewish and Posh. At a younger age, he indulged in minor crimes like shoplifting.

Education:

In 1968, his parents recognized his wild attitude and sent him as a boarder to Sevenoaks School in Kent. In school, he learned fishing, acting, and wood cutting. After two years, he was sent to another school Bedales in Petersfield, Hampshire.

Career:

Day-Lewis made his film debut at the age of 14 in Sunday Bloody Sunday.  During the early 1980s, he worked in theater and television.  Day-Lewis gained public attention with the movie A Room with a View. He portrayed the upper-class fiance of the main character. He returned to the stage in 1989 to work in Hamlet at the National Theatre. He collapsed during his performance when he saw the ghost of Hamlet’s father appear before him. He refused to continue his work.

As An Actor:

Daniel Day-Lewis starred in a number of successful films, including The Last of Mohicans as Natty Bumppo. After appearing in The Boxer, Day-Lewis took a break from acting and worked for a time as a cobbler’s apprentice in Italy.
