Introduction
Rana Tanveer Hussain is a senior leader of PML-N and a long-time politician from Sheikhupura, Punjab. He is now Federal Minister for Industries and Production and National Food Security and Research (since March 2024). He works to help farmers, grow factories, and make Pakistan stronger in food and industry. He is 76 years old (born October 1, 1949) and has served the country for over 40 years.
Early Life and Education
Rana Tanveer was born and raised in Sheikhupura, a city famous for farming. He saw how hard farmers work and how important food is for Pakistan. He studied Economics and got a Master’s degree. Later, he also completed LLB (law degree) from Punjab University, Lahore. His education helped him understand money, farming, and law — all very useful in his political life.
Family
Rana Tanveer comes from a Punjabi Arain family. His father, Haji Muhammad Anwer, passed away in 2008. His brother, Rana Afzaal Hussain, is also in politics with PML-N and has been MNA before. Rana Tanveer is married and has a daughter. He keeps family life private but says his family gives him strength to serve people.
Before Politics
Before entering full-time politics, Rana Tanveer was a successful farmer and businessman. He ran agricultural and industrial work in Sheikhupura. This experience taught him how to create jobs and grow crops — knowledge he uses today as a minister.
Political Journey
Rana Tanveer started politics in 1983 when he won a seat in Sheikhupura District Council. He joined PML-N and won his first National Assembly seat in 1985 from NA-120. He has won elections many times:
- 1985
- 1990
- 1997
- 2008
- 2013

- 2024
He has been Minister many times:
- Defence Production (2008, 2013–2017)
- Science & Technology (2017)

- Now: Industries + Food Security (2024–present)
He helps make Pakistan’s army equipment, supports science, and now focuses on better seeds, more crops, and strong factories.
What He Does Now
As Minister for Food Security, he is working on:
- Giving farmers better seeds
- Using smart farming (machines + technology)
- Fighting climate change effects on crops
- Reducing wheat import
He says: “Pakistan must grow its own food. We are helping farmers with new seeds and water plans.”
Controversies
Rana Tanveer has a clean image. In 2020, NAB called him in an assets case, but it was closed with no proof. Some farmers disagree with government wheat prices, but he always listens and tries to solve problems.
