In May 2025 Republic ran live coverage of India’s Operation Sindoor strikes, which India said hit terrorist infrastructure. Reactions ran in several directions. A ThePrint opinion column criticised Indian TV coverage of the strikes, including Republic’s, as resembling a war game more than journalism. TRP investigation, 2020 arrest and leaked chats
In October 2020 Mumbai Police began investigating alleged manipulation of television ratings. The complaint alleged that former BARC CEO Partho Dasgupta had colluded with channels, and Republic was named among them. Goswami denied the allegations and accused Mumbai Police of retaliating for the channel’s criticism of them. Police named him in a supplementary chargesheet in June 2021. On 6 March 2024 a Mumbai court allowed the Maharashtra government to withdraw the prosecution.
Separately, Goswami was arrested on 4 November 2020 in a 2018 abetment-to-suicide case involving interior designer Anvay Naik, whose suicide note alleged non-payment of dues by three people including Goswami. The Supreme Court granted him interim bail on 11 November 2020, stating that personal liberty must be upheld. Union ministers including Amit Shah and S. Jaishankar called the arrest an attack on press freedom. Maharashtra was then governed by a coalition opposed to the BJP.

In December 2020 Ofcom fined Worldview Media Network £20,000. Worldview is the UK licence holder for Republic Bharat, which had aired an episode of Poochta Hai Bharat. Ofcom found that Goswami and some of his guests made statements amounting to hate speech against Pakistani people. The debate, aired on 6 September 2019, focused on India–Pakistan relations. Worldview argued the remarks were figures of speech, made amid heightened India–Pakistan tension, and that guests from both countries took part.
