Terrence Steve McQueen was an American actor. He was a macho, laconic American star of the 1960s to 1970s. He usually played tough, sexy, and determined roles. He often portrayed police officers or military officers. He was known for his light brown hair and bright blue eyes. He had a Charismatic personality. His roles often incorporated his impressive driving skills.

He was the ultra-cool male film star of the 1960s and rose from a troubled youth spent in reform schools to being the world’s most popular actor. McQueen received an Academy Award nomination for his role in The Sand Pebbles. In 1974, he became the highest-paid star in the film world. Early Life:

Terrace Stephen McQueen was born to a single mother on 24 March 1930 at St. Frances Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana. He belonged to Scottish ancestry and was raised as  Roman Catholic. His father William Mc Queen was a stunt pilot for a flying circus. His parents never get married. His father left his mother after six months of the relationship. His mother was an alcoholic. Steve lived with his maternal grandparents in the farm of his maternal granduncle Claude

McQueen’s mother married and when the boy was eight, she brought him from the farm to live with her and her new husband in Indianapolis. McQueen’s uncle gave him a special gift on his departure.

Personal Life:

On November 2, 1956, he married Filipino actress and dancer Neile Adams. The couple had a daughter and a son. They divorced in 1972. In 1973, McQueen married actress Ali MacGraw, his co-star in The Gateway. This marriage ended in divorce in 1978. On January 16, 1980, less than a year before his death, McQueen married model Barbara Minty.

McQueen did not perform well in his early life and education. He did not perform well in school. It was due to his stepfather’s behavior.  His father beat him to such an extent that he left home at the age of nine. He began to live in streets. Soon he was running with a gang and committing crimes. Due to his behavior, he was sent back to his maternal parents again.

Career:

McQueen drifted through odd jobs and three years of service in the United States Marine Corps before he began performing at New York City’s Neighborhood Playhouse in 1952. The jobs include selling pens and working as a lumberjack in Canada.

Military Career:

In 1947, after receiving permission from his mother, McQueen enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was sent to Parris Island for boot camp He was promoted to private First Class and assigned to an armored unit. He initially struggled with the discipline of the service and was demoted to private seven times. He saved the lives of five other Marines during an Arctic exercise, pulling them from a tank before it broke through ice into the sea. McQueen served until 1950 and was honorably discharged.

Acting Career:

At the start of his career, McQueen had minor roles in stage productions. He made his Broadway debut in 1955 in the play A Hatful of Rain. McQueen’s first breakout role came on television through the series Tales of Wells Fargo as Bill Longley. He won an Oscar nomination for his successful movie Bullit which was his personal favorite.
