Initially named Frances Ethel Gumm, Judy Garland was one of Hollywood’s golden era’s brightest and most tragic movie stars.  Judy is one of the most successful actresses in the world. She was also an accomplished singer. She received high praise for her diverse roles in her career. Judy became prominent for her role in the movie The Wizard Of Oz in 1939. She portrayed the role of an orphan girl Dorothy.

Early Life:

Frances Ethel Gumm was born on June 10th of 1922 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, United States. Her parents  Ethel Marion and Frances Avent Gumm Vaudevillians and they run a movie theater. She was called a baby by her parents and sisters. In 1962, her family moved to Lancaster, California. There it was discovered that his father was homosexual. Frank bought and operated another theater in Lancaster and Ethel helped her daughter to get roles in motion pictures.

Education:

In 1928, Judy along with her sisters enrolled in a dance school that Ethel Meglin ran. They appeared with their group in the annual Christmas show.

Personal Life:

Judy Garland married five times throughout her life. Judy began her first relationship with David Rose in the early 1940s, and David gifted her an engagement ring on her 18th birthday. David Rose was an American songwriter, pianist,  composer, and orchestra leader. Garland and Rose married on July 27, 1941. The couple had no children. They divorced in 1944.

On the sets of Meet Me in St. Louis, Garland met her second husband Minneli and they started their relationship and married on 15 June 1945. The couple had a daughter and divorced in 1951.

After the second divorce, in 1952, Judy married Sidney Luft, who was an American Showbusiness figure and producer. The couple had two daughters Lorna Luft and Joey Luft and divorced in 1965.

Garland married Mark Herron in November 1965 and separated after six months of their marriage.

Garland married Micky Deans in 1969 in London and he was her husband till her death.

Early Career:

Garland came to the attention of MGM studio executives when she sang a special song You Made Me Love You at  Clark Gable’s birthday party that the studio arranged for the actor. Garland was paired with Mickey Roney in Backyard Musicals. The duo appeared in the movie Thoroughbreds  Don’t Cry as supporting actors.

In 1938, Garland played Young Dorothy Gale in the movie “The Wizard of Oz. In the movie, she also sang the song Over The Rainbow. She was later identified for this song. Garland received her only Academy Juvenile Award, for her performances in The Wizard Of Oz and Babes In Arms. After the film, Judy was one of the most bankable actresses in the United States.
