Mr. Moonis Elahi Biography 

A Pakistani political family has ties to Chaudhry Moonis Elahi. The Punjab Provincial Assembly’s current speaker is Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, his father. Uncle and grandfather of Moonis Elahi were also well-known politicians. The family is extremely rich and owns businesses in the textile and sugar industries.

From 2008 to 2018, Moonis Elahi represented the PML-Q in the Punjab assembly. Early Life and Family:

On April 12, 1976, Moonis Elahi was born in Lahore, where he also spent his formative years. He moved to the London campus of the same institution after completing his early education and academics at the Lahore American School through the 10th grade. After graduation, he travelled to the USA to further his education.

After receiving his BBA from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in 1999, he returned to Pakistan the same year. In his early years, he only paid attention to the dairy and textile sectors that belonged to the family firm.

Several prominent and influential members of Moonis Elahi’s family have been senators, MNAs, MPAs, prime ministers, chief ministers, and deputy prime ministers. The first allotted position was held by his grandfather, Ch. Zahoor Elahi, who was an MNA before serving as chairman of the district council. Following the 1999 coup, their father, Pervaiz Elahi and cousin Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, both turned against their previous boss, the PMLN, to pursue their political careers. Pervaiz Elahi was the Leader of the Opposition in the Pakistan National Assembly, MNA, MPA, Punjab’s Chief Minister, and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister. He is now the speaker of the Punjab Provincial Assembly. Ch Shujaat Hussain was Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Minister of Industry, and Minister of the Interior.

Marriage: 

Moonis Elahi was married to Tehreem Elahi. Moonis Elahi had never been in a relationship as of January 12, 2023. They are parents to a daughter and a son.

Career: 

In the 2008 Pakistani general political decision, Moonis Elahi ran as a Pakistan Muslim Association Q PML Q competitor from two bodies electorate for the Punjab Commonplace together. He crushed Pakistan People Groups Party competitor Ch Nasir Samma in the Gujarat body electorate, overcoming him with 37137 votes, in any case, he was crushed in the Lahore supporters, losing the seat to a Pakistan Muslim Association (N) up-and-comer.

He left the PML(Q) and joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on February 21, 2023, alongside his dad Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and ten previous PML(Q) individuals from the Punjab Common Gathering because of contrasts with Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, the PML(Q) president. He has always maintained his innocence and has never been found guilty of a crime. A British Virgin Islands-based offshore firm linked to Moonis Elahi was made public by ICIJ in 2013. Moonis Elahi denied owning or controlling the BVI business in an email to ICIJ, but he omitted to say whether he had in the past.

Elahi won both the Punjab Provincial Assembly and the general election in Pakistan in 2013 when he ran as a PML-Q candidate from Mandi Bahauddin and Gujrat. To save his seat in his home territory of Gujarat, he left the Mandi Bahauddin position.

On February 10, 2020, leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League (Q) met to discuss the issues. Moonis Elahi tweeted later that the PML(Q) and PTI alliance would continue. Accordingly, Imran Khan selected Moonis as the Government Priest for Water Assets on July 13, 2021.

He made the vow of office to act as the government service for water assets on July 19, 2021. The promise was made under President Arif Alvi.

FIA charges on Moonis Elahi with money laundering: 

In connection with alleged money laundering in the Panama crisis, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) filed a complaint against former federal minister Chaudhry Moonis Elahi and Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi. 

The enterprises that the president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the former federal minister owned were made public by the Panama affair. To bring a case against Mr. Moonis Elahi and his son, the FIA had gathered evidence. 

The former Punjab chief minister and his son were charged in a case brought under the rules governing fraud and money laundering by hiding billions of rupees in five Panamanian companies. According to FIA sources, Mr. Moonis Elahi allegedly bought businesses in Panama and there was proof of money being illegally transferred outside. 

Moonis Elahi Corruption Scandals:

He is charged with corrupting NICL out of Rs. 320 million while his father served as Punjab’s Chief Minister. He was requested to appear before the investigating committee but failed to do so. Moonis Elahi Chaudhry’s Charges against him were later dropped as a result of comprehensive evidence after he was apprehended and sent to jail. He was one of the politicians listed in the Panama Papers in 2016, although he and his family continued to deny any wrongdoing or corruption. He was identified as the owner of Olive Grove Assets Ltd., an offshore business.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) also began looking into his fortune, but the investigation eventually dragged on.

Assets:

In 2007, Moonis Elahi stated that the total value of his assets was little more than Rs 0.5 million. In 2009, his assets were valued at more than Rs 700 million.
